MATAMATA TOWN BOARD

ORDINARY MEETING, The Matamata Town Board met Monday. There were present Messrs .1. Price (chairman), T. H. Davis. F. ELark, W. J. Simpson, W. Gordan, G. G Bell, A. Stewart, and B. Blcnnerltassctt (clerk). Matamata Saleyards. On behalf of the N.X. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Messrs Dalgct.y and Co., Ltd., and themselves, the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company advised that they have again arranged to put the building of the new yards in their architect's hands- It. is their intention to proceed with the work as soon as authority is obtained. Under these circumstances they presumed the Board would grant authority for use of the old yards, which have lately been cleaned up.—lt was decided that providing Uie yards arc kept clean and an assurance given that the new work will be proceeded with, a temporary permit for three months be granted. - Sale of Firewood. The tender of Mr H. E. Follett. Matamata, for £1 5s 6d per cord for the purchase of wood in Tower road was accepted. Mr Simpson moved that the timber be measured to the satisfaction of both the foreman and purchaser, and that it be a cash transaction. —Carried. Correspondence. Mr A. O'Neill, Matamata, wished to know if the Board had given permission for the erection of a fence across the.road at the back of his sections. He mentioned that one had just been erected, to which he objected owing to it preventing him from getting in and out of bis property. He requested the Board to - have it removed. —Left in the chairman's hands to take the best steps to have the fence removed. Roads Committee's Report. The Roads Committee recommended that Mr Loughlin be interviewed or written to re the difference and 1 quantity of metal received and invoiced; that Messrs B. Waite and Booth and Chapman be written -to for price of painting sign board for pound; that the clerk prepare schedule of that which is to be painted thereon; that tenders be called for the erection of stables as per plans and specifications.—Adopted. Electrical Installation in Hall. The Town Hall Committee recommended that the work of installation be done on the basis of time and material, such material in the hall at present to be utilised as far as possible; that a generator set in accordance with type described by Mr McLeod be purchased; that in accordance with demands from the New Zealand Picture Supplies the Board's machine be sent, when so demanded, for repairs; that 5s per single screening be charged for outside entertainments and 2s Gd for local; that an attractive slide be designed by the Board for displaying on. the screen the particulars of prices for screen advertising. Mr Lark, commenting on the purchase of the generator set, considered that the expenditure of £3OO at this juncture for this purpose was undesirable. The report was adoptedFinance. The following accounts were passed for payment - . General account £l2B Bs, water supply loan account £195 17s. It was reported that the rates for the period ended March 31, .11)21. and all arrears outstanding prior to that date amounted to £llsO 15s S)d. To date the sum outstanding is £l4 lis. It was unanimously agreed that the Board was in a very fortunate position compared wjth other local bodies in this respect, and it reflected great credit on the clerk.
