MONTHLY MEETING.

Mr Stewart Reid (county chairman) presided over" a meeting of the Waipa County Council yesterday. There wen; present Crs. Ellicott, Poacocke, Livingstone, Crawford. McGhie, Cavanagh, Cowley.. Johnson, Murky, and Kdwards. Mr L. J. Conn, Pirongia, asked permission lo shin out liis road boundary about six feet to enable him to cope with the noxious weeds. —Left in the hands of Cr. Johnson.

C. Dalbelh, Tn Kowhai, asked if the Council intended erecting a temporary bridge over the Ohote stream while repairs to the permanent were being undertaken. —Cr. Livingstone said lie had explained the position to the wrker, and the letter was received. In his report, on work done since (he last meeting the engineer, Mr J. W. Civil, reported lo the Council yesterd.iy as follows: —

Newcastle Riding—Riding loan, Tuhikaramea - Whatawhata - Ngaruawahia section: Mr Fogarty has started grading and preparing road for metal, and a start had been made carting metal with our lorries from Horbtiu on to roads starting at Limtner's corner and working back towards Te Kowhai; some 500 cubic yards of metal has been dumped at Horotiu. Ohote bridge: Half of the hardwood timber for this bridge has arrived, and I expect the balance this week. Bryant's road: I have graded and laid off some 40 chains of earthworks on this road, and J. Mawhinney is starting on same this week. When completed this will give the settlers on the-road a good formed clay road. Horotiu bridge road: Plans and specifications have been made for this work, tenders called, and some seven tenders are before this meeting. Hodgson's quarry: Tenders have been culled for quarrying and loading of pontoons and tenders let. to J. R- Hayes. Tressling and shute have been completed, and I expect work to start in a few days' time.

Hamilton Riding— Peacocke's bridge: I am arranging to start erecting this bridge at an .early date. HamiltonNgaruawahia road: A portion of this road, Te Rajm to Newcastle ridin-: boundary, has been graded. Repairs have been carried out on various roads. Tuhikaramqa Riding.—NgahinepourlRukuhia Railway Station road: Surfacework has been carried out on this road, and some 50 yards of metal has bcc.i forwarded to Rukuhia railway station for repairs and same is being cartel out. Te Rore-Ngahinepouri road: Hardwood stringers have arrived at Frankton for bridge culvert, and same will be carried out on arrival of totara timber required. Surfacework has been carried out on various roads. Pukekura Riding.-—Repairs and surfacework have been carried out on the Cambridge-Ohaupo, To Awamutu-Ham-ilton and Ohaupo-Paterangi roads. 1 have arranged with Cr. Cowley to go over the Te Awamutu-Cambridge road within the next fortnight re repairs required on this road. Rangiaohia Riding.—Te AwamutuHamilton road: Smith and party have finished the cutting that was left unfinished last year, and surfacework has been carried out by the surfaceman. Some 20yds has been carted out to repair the Kihikihi-Hairini roads. Surfacework has also been carried out on other roads- Te Awamutu-Cambridge road: There are two portions of unnietalled road near Mulhcron's and Chamberlain's residences which need metalling, but as they are not likely to be in funds to meet same, I would ask authority to get said portions of road trimmed and sanded this summer.

Mangapiko Riding—Mangapiko school road (some 70 chains in length) : Smith and party have made a start on this work. Te Rorc-Paterangi road, pronner's section: Some 20 chains of the rough metal on this road has been blinded with 1 Jin metal. Repairs have been carried out on various roads in the Tiding.
