THAMES BAND CONTEST
•> HYRIN TEST. The judge's remarks on the Hymn Test, published yesterday, referred to the Thames Band, not to the Hamilton Band, as stated. Of the Hamilton Hand's playing the judge said: — "Correct weight of tone at opening. Balance very nice. Horn slightly out of tune bar 0. Not quite together, second minim, bar 17. Crcs, at 20 fairly well played. 2nd verse: Phrasing correctly. Horn again out of tune ;it, 6 anil 7. This is a pity as it is somewhat marring a good performance. 3rd verse: Solo horn still out of tune at bars C and 7 on f's; too prominent, disturbing balance of band slightly. Remaining portion of band playing very nicely, although basses a little coarse at. places. Melody cornels doing very good work. Points 88.
