Mr J. E. Wilson, S.M., who has acted as Chief Justice in British Samoa for some time, returned by the Tofua yesterday. Mr .1. A. Young, M.P., was to-day re-elected chairman of the Native Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives for the tenth year in succession.

The Waikalo County Council yesterday passed ;i vote of condolence with the family and relatives of the late Mr Upton, the victim of the accident on the Walngaro road on Saturday night. Mr Roderick MeLeod, who passed away at Devonport recently, at a ripe age, was formerly a well-known Government engineer, and carried out important works for the Government in different parts of the country a few years ago. He had been a great, traveller and spent some lime in Palestine, and studied many of the problems there. Mr MeLeod never married, and in his later years it was a sad affliction for him that his memory gave out. As -a young man he had been trained in a very thorough school, and was looked upon as a leader in his profession. He was an uncle of Mrs Cokcr, Frankton Junction, and Mr Wilson, of the Bank of New Zealand, Matarnata.
