DAIRY FARMERS' UNION

BRANCH FORMED AT EUREKA. A meeting of dairy farmers was held in the Eureka Mall on Monday. The organiser of the Dairy Fanners' Union, Mr A. E. Fear, addressed the meeting, placing before the farmers the urgent need for organising. The fanners must unite and he prepared to stand firmly together. Trusts and combines were the order of the day. Armour and Co. were at the present time conducting a press campaign throughout the Dominion to force their hands. 1,500,000 farmers in America have left I heir farms through the trusts. The speaker stated that things were coming hack to normal. Prices would he lower for butler-fat and cheese, and they must go in for systematic herd-test-ing, and raise the standard of the dairy cows from 100 to 3001 b per annum. This would be helped by registered bulls, which was going to be compulsory through the Dairy Union. In comparing notes and returns with other districts in the North Island, the organiser stated that 70 per cent of the farmers in the Waikato kept too many cows, "and this accounted largely for the great mortality in stock, and the small returns they were getting from their dairy herds as compared with other districts. Tho dairy division was arranging to have a distributing centre in London, so that the 40'2 co-operative dairy companies throughout the Dominion would work collectively in distributing their butter and cheese' on the world's markets.

Shipping, banking, soil test and other matters pertaining to the advancement of the dairy farmers were discussed, and all questions were satisfactorily answered.

On the motion of Mr Monteith, seconded by Mr Larson, it was decided that, a branch of the Dairy Farmers' Union bo formed. A committee to work the district was formed as follows: —Messrs Luxton, Monteith, R. Ilinton and N. Singleton.

A hearty vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Hooper for the interesting address given by Mr Fear, and was carried unanimously.
