Mr Leonard Wood, the GovernorGeneral of the Philippines, addressing the American-Japan Society, .declared that there had been a great deal dr loose, foolish talk about l.hc (rouble between America and .Japan. He was certain there, was no desire on the part of the American people to dwell in anything but the most friendly relations with Japan. The two, flags stood together on the battlefield, and would always stand together.on the side of right. Their relations were not strained, and wore always going to lie good. The Americans want’ to build up trade and commerce, hut welcome fair and open compel! I ions. He was sure the Japanese would ask only 1 lie same. It would be a terrible reflection on modern civilisation if two peoples like Japan and America could not gel togelher round a conference board and settle difficulties.
