FORGED TRANSFERS

OF COMMONWEALTH STOCK. Received October 10, 8.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 9. Uneasiness lias been caused by the discovery of forgeries of two transfers of i lommonwcalth stock, involving LGOUO. Investigations are proceeding, hut it is believed that no other forgeries exist. The slock, when transferred to the fictitious nominees of the forgers, was sold in the market, and Die forgers got clear with Hie proceeds. The original bolder of the stock will not suffer, as the Treasury purchased the covering stock, and placed it to the credit of the holder, whose name was forged. The Treasury announces tli.it it bolds all slock holders abso«, iutcly protected.
