A MOTORING FATALITY

WAIMAI FARMER KILLED CAR GOES DOWN WATERFALL. VTArXGARO ROAD ACCIDENT. A motoring accident occurred on the Waingaro road on Saturday evening as the result of which a Ford motor car overturned down a waterfall, resulting in the death of the driver, Mr Albert Upton, farmer of Waimai. The car. in addition to Mr Upton, who was driving, contained Mr J. Marrow, licensee of the Waingaro Springs Hotel, Mr 11. Hegh, farmer of Waimai, and another passenger, Mr Frank Boguc. They were returning to Waingaro after having journeyed into Nganiawahia to sec some friends depart by the train. Tire night was dark and rain was failing, as is had steadily done throughout the afternoon. This made the road a very treacherous one under the conditions. When traversing what is known as the Mile Bush, about four miles from Ngaruawahia and some couple of miles from Glen Massey, at a had bend in the road the lights suddenly went out and the car, commencing lo skid, went over the bank on to a rocky bottom 40 feet below. The late Mr Upton, who was 45 years of age. was a son of Mr J. H. Upton, of the Bank of New Zealand directorate, and brother of Mr 13.I 3 . Upton, manager of the South British Insurance Company, at Auckland. Deceased was a well-known resident of tin! district, where lie had been farming for very many years. He was very popular and was connected with every movement for the progress of the district. He was married to a Miss Wilson, a member of a well-known Waimai family. Deceased was a member of the, Raglan Gonnly Council. A widow and four children are left lo mourn liudr loss. An inquest will be held at Ngaruawahia at 2 o’clock this afternoon. The funeral will lake place In the Waingaro Cemetery at 11 o’clock tomorrow.
