THE RACING COMMISSION

MEETING OF M’S.P, THREE ISSUES CONSIDERED. NO DECISION REACHED (By Telegraph.—Press Association.; WELLINGTON. Friday. A meeting of .Members of Parliament, other than Ministers, was held (his illuming to consider the report of the Racing Commission.

The meeting was convened by Sir George Hunter, who afterwards issued a report. He staled there were about /i 0 members present, representing ail sections of the House. A friendly discussion took place on the report. Some members felt that there was much good in the report, and ollicrs look the opposite view. There were three distinct issues before the meeting —(i) That brought forward by those who were in favour of accepting the Commission’s report; (2) that of those who favoured its total rejection; and (3) that advocated by those who favoured a compromise. it was seen, after a friendly discussion, that it was impossible for the meeting to reach a unanimous decision, and the meeting separated without any resolution being carried.

Those members who favoured a compromise remained and discussed the matter from that point of view, and with a desire to see what was unfavourable eliminated from the report and what was favourable retained. It was decided to hold a.further meeting early next week, and later on it is expected that representations will be made to the Prime .Minister on the matter. QUERIES IN THE HOUSE. FULL DISCUSSION PROMISED. WELLINGTON, Friday.
