TAXI TELEPHONES
LONG-SHELVED ARRANGEMENTS. Nearly 12 months ago the Hamilton Council decided, as the result of an intimation from the Post and Telegraph Department, that the automatic 'phones used on motor cab and carrier stands must be under the control of the Council and also that the 'phones must be enclosed in waterproof cabinets, to erect cabinets on the various stands Tor the purpose of bousing Hie 'phones, and al the same lime to charge each motor-cab proprietor or each carrier a rental of 25s per annum for the use of the cabinet (including 'phone). So far none of these cabinets have been erected, although various decisions have been made by the Council in respect to them. In drawing attention to this fact, the Hamilton Town CTerk last night said the time was now not far distant when motor-cab proprietors and carriers would be asked to pay a second year's rental for a cabinet.- of which they have not yet had any use. The mailer was referred to the Works Committee.
