A.J-C. MEETING. BEAUPORD WINS CRAVEN PLATE. NEW ZEALAND HORSES FAIL. (United Press Association.) Received October 5, 8.15 p.m. SYDNEY, October 5. For the third day of the Australian Jockey Club's spring meeting the weather was ideal and the course in excellent order. There was an attendance of 35,000. The day's racing was, perhaps, the most pleasant of the meeting. Profiting by observation of the first two days' racing, punters displayed keener discrimination in picking. Excellent ha'ndicapping made them earn their winnings. Beauford's victory in the Craven Plate was deservedly popular, though many doubted his ability to see out li miles. He not only saw the distance, but established an Australasian record. The New Zealanders, whilst prominent during the progress of races, failed to materialise at the finish. Second Hurdle Race.—Colonel Knut (10.4) 1, Airdrie (11.10) 2, Reducive (11.0) 3. There was an excellent tussle over' the last half mile between Colonel Knut and Airdrie, but the former won by three lengths. Time, 4.38 J.

Eleven started. Publicity went to the front after a mile, and was never headed. Loyal Irish was prominent early in the race. Collision was knocked back during the running. Won by a neck. Time, 2.6. Gimcrack Stakes, for 2-year-old fillies, Bst each, 5 furlongs.—Lady Aura 1, Theory 2, Wolverine 3- Sixteen starters. Veil was noticeable rounding the bend, and finished fifth. Lady Aura went to the front, leading into the straight, and won by li lengths. Time 1.1 J. Sydney Handicap. —Kcneppil (7,-i) 1, Prince Charles (7.8) 2, Escarte (7.7) 3. There were twelve starters.
