AUSTRALASIAN CONTESTS. NEW ZEALAND TEAM DOES WELL. Received October 5, 12.55 a.m. SYDNEY. October 4. The Australasian amateur boxing championships commenced this evening, with the following results: — Bantam. —V. Nolan (Queensland) beat .1. Blair (New South Wales) on points. Lightweight—C. Sinclair (Queensbind; knocked out H. Kane (Victoria) in the third round. May (New Zealand; beat. E. Thompson (New South Wales; in the second round, the latter seeking the refuge of the ropes. May gave a ciever display of clean hitting. Featherweight,—A. Kay (Victoria) beat C. White t.Ncw South Wales) on points. Button (N.Z.) beat E. Webb on points after four rounds of willing boxing. Middleweight.—Meale defeated J. Souter on points, easily. Meale was on top all the way. Souter was down for nine in the second round. M. Williams (Queensland) beat G. Boyee (New South Wales) on points. Heavy weight.--C. Jardinc (New South Wales) beat G. Miller (Queenslandl on points. 15. .McCleary (New Zealand) beat W. Clarke (South Australia) on points. This was the best contest of the night, McCleary using his left and right to the head frequently. Both were cheered for the vigorous displayWelterweight.—C. Sinclair (Queensland) forfeited to F. MarLyii (Victoria). Sinclair figured earlier in file evening. I'.. Finlay (New South Wales) beat O'Neill i New Zealand) on points. This was ;i doubtful decision, though there was little in it cither way. Both gave a clean exhibition of scientific, boxing. Purdy (.New Zealand) will light on Thursday.
