HAMILTON DOMAIN BOARD

WORK OF THE MONTH. LAYING OUT FOOTBALL FIELDS. In a general report on the work of the Hamilton Domain Board during the past month, the chairman (Mr A. Swarbrirk) stated to a full meeting of the Board last night:—Since our last meeting we have completed the fence in Ilosstrevor street and Scddon road. As these grounds are. to serve not only as tennis courts, but as part of a general scheme for beautifying this district, we have erected a suitable park fence with painted posts and three sates to give admission. The whole of the ground underneath and adjoining the fence has b'-en levelled and all noxious weeds cleared- In accordance with the resolution of the last meeting of the Board we have shifted the fence and drain so as to make a suitable ground for football on the southern side of Mill street. On the northern side of Mill street the Rugby Union have cleared the ground to be allotted for football fields, and in addition they have cleared the portion of the ground which the Board proposes to retain. These grounds, when fully developed on the plan ap-

proved by the Board, will give very complete and valuable grounds for football, but the cosl of levelling and preparing them will be very considerable, and I think the Hoard should do its utmost to assist. All work should be in accordance with the ultimate

plans, but it can be so done as to

utilise part without waiting for the completion of the whole. To a\oid useless work the levels should first he taken, and I suggest that the Board pay

for the necessary surveys and do a certain amount of clearing and fencing as time and funds are available. When the land is ploughed the necessary surveys can lie made and a complete scheme worked out. I should like the

authority of the Board to complete the fences 'in the northern side of Mill street anil put the same in order as on the other side of the stree.t. Our men

may also complete the clearing of the lain] near Mill street, to be retained by the Board. I should like also when funds are available to erect a fence between the borough land on the east of I tie domain lands, as the additional

slrips must ultimately be added to the football field lo make the grounds of sufficient length. Our men are now engaged in putting in order the boarding and earth work aI. the bathing place at the Lake, and I propose to re-board the front of the bathing shed for men- t should like also the authority of the Board lo have the ladies' dressing room repainted. When this work is done the bathing accommodation will be in fair order for the coming season; hut it is most desirable f fii*t proper concrete dressing places should tie made for the men, and 1 trust the Board will be able to undertake this work at an early date. The pavilion at Scddon Park is in

urgent need of paint, and 1 should like the Board to consider and decide as to "\the work of painting this building and • Ws pates of the park.

' [t. was decided to draw up an estimate of the painting required and to call for tenders.
