A POPULAR POSTMASTER
MR E. Q. STAPP TO RETIRE.
Mr E. G. Stapp, Chief Postmaster, Hamilton, is retiring on superannuation at the end of the year. He joined the Postal Department at Nelson over 40 years ago, and has held many important positions in the service, including postmaster Port Nelson, chief clerk Blenheim, chief clerk Christehurch, postmaster Feilding, assistant postmaster Wellington, chief postmaster Nelson, and is the first chief postmaster of Hamilton. Mr Stapp is retiring in excellent health and intends to settle with his family in ChrisK church. .
Mr Stapp, during his comparatively short stay in Hamilton, has rendered excellent public service, and the news of his retirement wall be received with general regret. Coming to Hamilton when it was raised to the status of a Chief Post Office, he had much organising work to do, and in carrying this out Wis one aim has been to accord the best possible service to the public throughout the whole of his large district. He has always been courteous, taclful, and energetic, and thcra will be a genera! feeling of surprise that any scheme of economy.should decree the retirement of an officer of experience and judgment who is in tha full enjoyment of all his powers ami capable of rendering many years' more valuable service.
