AN AUCKLAND FIRE
CORONiAL INQUIRY. "WILFULLY SET ON FIRE." By Telegraph.—Press Association. AU CKLA ND, Wedn esc! ay. At, the conclusion of the inquiry into the lire in the. premises of the Auckland Furnishing Company, Ponsonby, on August, 15, Mr Poynton, S.M., found that the premises were wilfully set on lire; that three tins of benzine were placed there for the purpose of ensuring the destruction of the office and books, there not being sufficient evidence to show who started the fire. The partners in Hie Auckland Furnishing Company are three returned soldiers, Walter Coomhes, Vincent C. Dwyer, and Claude. Stapleton. Geoffrey Neville, branch manager of the British Trade Insurance Company, staled in evidence that tins stock and plant were overinsured £3lO at Hie lime of the fire. R. D. Decry, representing the Repatriation Board, stated that in January last the office advanced each of Hire; partners £3OO, a total of £9OO, and the Department held a lull of sale over Hu assefs, but in Hie lire insurance policy Hie Department was not named as the mortgagee. Coomhes bought out one of the original partners, Robert Daizell for £217 in February last.
