As the floods in the northern rivers recede, the reports from the outlying districts previously cut off by flood waters show that the losses of stock and crops and the damage generally are very serious and widespread. Much suffering was endured by the marooned people, and many sensational, escapes are recorded. In a number of cases thn houses were washed away bodily. The people in tiic flooded townships are now busily cleaning up the deep mud deposited in the streets and houses, and removing the deftris, including dead animals, and righting many houses which were shLßted from their foundations.
