BRIDE FOR RICH MAN
A CANADIAN'S APPEAL. Councillor Donald Clark, whose antimixed bathing crusade at Tollbridge caused a sensation a little while ago, now appears in the role of matrimonial agent. A short time ago, a farmer of Vancouver, an admirer of Mr Clark, appealed to him to help in selecting a bride. The Tonbridge councillor complied, and sent back a large number of names and photographs of would-be brides. The Canadian has now replied by cable, announcing thai he lias made his choice. lie has selected ;i gir] typist of 20, who lives at Tonbridge, and fulfils bis conditions, as given in his first letter to Mr Clark. In bis epi>Ue he staled:—
"I wan I a girl of about 18 ye;irs of ace: a pure, honest, good girl, clean and neat: just a plain, nice country girl, weight not over 1 151 b: i.e., a sniall-buiil girl. I don't eare how poor she is, or if an orphan. She will lie my sole heir, and, besides. I have £20,001) paid up on my life policies. My standing is very high, and you wili see by my card that I am a justice. 1 ean'l i ;■!. just Ibe s"iil mate I want. I have been a widower for eight years, and am middlle-aged." The next move is the girl's, whose interests are being looked after by Councillor Clark and another local gentleman. No personal details will be published until the destined bride reaches Canada.
