BRITISH COAL INDUSTRY
CONFERENCE WITH MSNERS. DECONTROL ON MARCH 31. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received February 24, 7.40 p.m. LONDON, February 23. A conference between Sir R. S. Home and the Miners', Federation resulted in Sir R. S. Home promising to cancel the instructions to the owners. which ha.l led certain collieries to serve fourteen days' formal notice on the workmen in order to terminate the existing agreements. The miners' leaders are alleging that sixty days' notice is necessary under the control system. The Federation also protested against the decontrol of the coal industry on .March 31. In any case there should be no financial decontrol until August 31. Sir R. S. Home replied that decontrol would be as proposed on March 31. The representatives of the masters and men are now hard at work endeavouring to find a mutual settlement of the wages problem.
