It is stated in Government circles in Dublin that there are signs that the Irish republican army is urgently in need of funds. Collections were made in the streets of Dublin on Sunday, also from houses. A number of the collectors were arrested. The authorities are in possesion of a notice sent to householders in County Tipperary announcing that the colonel of the Mid Tipperary Brigade had decided to impose a levy in order to arm and equip the brigade. One hundred Sinn Felners commandeered a house belonging to Mr Thomas King, a magistrate, 12 miles from Skibberoen. They prepared an ambush and opened fire on a parly of 18 policemen in motor cars. The police replied and there was a fierce fight, the firing being heard nine miles away. The ambushers neglected to cut the telegraph wires and obstruct the roads, and military and police reinforcements arrived from Clonakilty, when the ambushes fled, leaving six dead and several wounded, together with much ammunition, six guns, blankets and trench coats.
