A MURDER CHARGE

GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. RECOMMENDATION TO MERCY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Frederick Thompson, giving evidence in a charge against him of murdering Anthony Itzoska, at Carterton, corroborated witnesses’ story as to the talk of a fight, lie added that, seeing Hzoska grab for a revolver, he grabbed too, and both gripped the revolver. There was a scuffle, and the revolver went off anil Rzoska fell. He had no intention of shooting Itzoska, but tried to get the revolver to prevent any trouble. The case is proceeding. The Crown recalled Edward Crossland, who denied that there was a struggle for the revolver. He said Rzoska had both hands by his side. He realised Hie seriousness of his statement, and reiterated that, Ihere was no struggle at all, and gave a demonstration in Court of the incident. Deceased’s brother, recalled, said that hardly a second elapsed between Tony handing him his coal and the firing of the shot. The jury found Thirnpson guilty of manslaughter with a strong recommendation to mercy. Sentence will be passed on Saturday.
