LAD KILLED BY TAXI CAB. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, Thursday. Arthur Gilderoy Barnes, aged eight years, was knocked down by a taxicab at Green Island yesterday and died in the hospital. An Inquest was opened to take the evidence of a Christehurch visilor, Charles Victor .Marie Legall, who was a passenger in the taxi. He stated that the car was travelling at not more than 15 miles. The child seemed to run out in front, and the driver swerved and stopped in a couple of lengths. The inquest was adjourned. HORSE AND VEHICLE COLLIDE. WAIHI, Thursday. A serious collision occurred at the corner of .Mueller and Kenny Streets late yesterday afternoon, when a grocery cart driven by a youth named I'ascoe, ran into a horse ridden by a boy named 0. Painton. The boy made an attempt to clear the vehicle, which was travelling round a. corner, lad, Tailed. The off .side shaft of the cart struck the boy's horse, penetrating' the animal's ribs. The rider (Painton) was thrown forcibly, and fell striking lis head on the hard road, being- considerably dazed and shak»n. The injured horse fell under the wheel of tin: grocery cart, and. though fatally injured, subsequently rose and galloped away. Later il was captured, and it was found necessary to immediately destroy the animal.
