CONSERVE THE WATER
USE OF GARDEN HOSE. RESTRICTIONS TO BE IMPOSED. “I think it is time we restricted in some measure the use of garden hose,” said Mr Reeves, Hamilton Borough electrical engineer, at a meeting of the Council last'night. The speaker said people should be prevented from placing their hose on a spade stuck in the ground, and allowing the water to spray all night, as must have been done in a lot of cases during the past few nights, for the water in the reservoir had fallen four or five'feet during the night. The speaker said he had no doubt that, the water situation could bo grappled with during the coming summer, but the machinery was by no means in perfect order, and there should certainly be some restriction on the use of garden hose. The people, generally, should learn In conserve the water. The Town Clerk said that as the bylaw stood, it was an offence at the present time to use garden hose. Cr Barton thought that some of the trouble was caused by leaky taps. Cr Tidd advocated garden meters as a means of restricting use of the water for garden purposes. The engineer was authorised to fix the hours during which garden hose may be used.
