At the Police Court James Lee was fined £3 and deprived of ids civil rights for five years for failing to attend drill. The defence authorities stated that the defendant had been lined several times, apd was a systematic shirker. NELSON BAND CONTEST. NELSON, Wednesday. Mr Albert Wade, of Adelaide, has been appointed judge at the Nelson band contest, and Mr 11. Sweeney supervisor. The total entries of bands is 32. There arc also large entries for the solos, but these have not yet closed. AGGRAVATED ASSAULT. GISBORNE, Wednesday. At the Supreme Court Oswald Randall was sentenced to three years for an aggravated assault on a neighbour, whose jaw he fractured with kicks from a hobnailed hoot. ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER. WANGANUI, Wednesday. Stephen Harris was committed for trial tins morning for alleged attempted w id' his wife, Lucy Harris, on October 21. According to the evidence accused, after a quarrel, attacked Mrs Harris with a razor and then cut his own throat, severing his windpipe.
