AUSTRALIAN WOOL
MR. HUGHES’ SCHEME CRITICISED. I I NOT LIKELY TO RE ADOPTED. , (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, May 11/ - Sir A. H. Goldfinch, in 'an interview gnid it, was extremely unlikely that Mr Hughes’ wool scheme would be adopted as if stood. It was essential for lids .country that supplies be kept up and still more so for France and Belgium. Air Hughes’ proposals would mean no 'supplies would be going to the Euroipean market, and an 'artificial, scarcity 'would be caused. The scheme might 'defeat its own object by increasing ithe sale of wool other than Australian.' The Yorkshire, Port says that it is difficult to see how Mr Hughes can compel wool growers to have'all their wool sold 'at auction in Australia as he declined to give compulsory powers for a similar scchmc in respect to wheat.
