PUBLIC OPINION
I As expressed by correspondents, whose letters are welcome, bul for whose views we have no responsibility. DUMPING RUBBISH. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Is there no rubbish tip in the Borough, as I notice the Borough workmen are depositing street sweepings in a ditch on a properly at the corner of Anglesea and Hood •streets, whence they are distributed o n to adjacent properties with every wind that blows. Private people would be hardly allowed to follow such a practice.—l am, etc., DISGUSTED. INSTRUCTION IN SWIMMING. (To the Editor). Sir. —Can anybody inform one whether it is the duty of th-: -aretaker of the local Municipal baths to instruct children attending the baths in the art of swimming. My boy, along -with others, has been attending the baths daily sinoe the opening of the season, and on visiting the baths with them I was surprised to learn that they could not swim a stroke. It is quite natural for one to suppose that the caretaker of a place of this description would only be too pleased to instruct the rising generation, even though the duty were self-imposed. My experience of bath-keepers in other town 9 has always been that, being lovers of such fine sport, they were delighted to teach the kiddies whenever possible. If the nonchalant spirit pertaining in Hamilton were a reflex of the rest of New Zealand, in the great water sport, thon one would be forced to conclude that this country was to continue to be known as one that had never produced a swimmer of note. —I am etc., M. RYAN, Hamilton East.
