DISTRICT NEWS
MORRINSVILLE. SHORTAGE. OF SUGAR. In common with the rest of the Dominion, Morrinsville is suffering from a scarcity of sugar, ami housewives are puzzling how they are going to be able to make jam unless larger supplies are available. Already advice has been received of fruit rotting on the trees owing to the inability ot owners to secure sufficient quantities of sujjar to make jam, or being unable to sell on account of other people not being able to buy sugar. COAL AND FIREWOOD.
Coal is another commodity of which there is a shortage in this district, and prospects for winter are anything but bright. In the meantime the wise man is getting in stocks of firewood for winter use. FARMERS' UNION.
At the meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the Farmers' Union a motion was carried congratulating Sir William Herries on his elevation to knighthood. There was some discussion over the question of the site for the dried milk factory, and finally a resolution was carried that Mr Goodfellow be urged to expedite the erection of the factory irrespective of site. At the next meeting a motion is to be brought forward that representations be made to the Government urging them to introduce legislation providing that evry owner of land of more than 50 acres should have one per cent of the a"ea planted in trees. CRICKET MATCH. In the Cricket Association match on Saturday Crusaders were defeated by United by 125 runs on the first innings. United made 235, H. Humphreys scoring 162 and Philpott 61. Crusaders made 105, F. Budd 42 (not out) and W. Tremberth 32 being the highest scorors. THE HALF-HOLIDAY. The question of the day, the weekly half-holiday, is to be dealt with shortly by the Town Board. Last year a change was made from Wednesday to Saturday, and it appears that the majority of the business people are content with the change. ODDFELOWS' LODGE. At the half-yearly meeting of the Morrinsville Lodge of Oddfellows the following officers were elected: G. M., Bro. W. J. Neels; N.G., Bro. A. Goodman; V.G., Sister M. Ross; E.S., Bro. R, Scott; P.S., Bro. J. H. Lvnch.
