In a report to the Council on the electric works, Mr G. T. Wilson, elec-tri-"l engineer, stated: — I Re Coal Supplies: I have had great diineuity, in common with others, in getting coal, and during the past month have only received 20 tons, and since the go-slow policy of the miners have been using up my reserve coal, and I am now forced to use wood. This fuel is very satisfactory, but it costs a good deal more than coal; but I have hunted up several sources of supply, and can now get unlimi'ted quantities of good burning wood at 30s a cord, delivered into power station. This will work out at about £9 per day, against £7 10s for coal as at present.—Re Assets of Electrical and Waterworks Plant: These sheets submitted are as at 31st March last, and values are based on an average of 50 per cent, of original cost, except some of the steam plant, which was procured at a very low figure and could be sold for more than it cost; therefore, these ictms are shown at their actual cost. The stock sheets were banded in to the town clerk in August last, and no doubt will be on the table it this meeting.—Re Application for Water by Mr S. P. Dick3>: Tins application is similar to other applications )f late for water outside the borough, md which have been refused until )etter pressure is obtainable. The report was adopted. This 3 the only portion of the scheme proved to be done by contract. —Re Clyde treet culvert: As this area is now free . "n stormwater, and It -is only during i dry spell that the work can be carted out economically, I would recomlend starting the new construction at nee. It' is proposed to carry out the /hole work with the borough staff.— t e Government Inspector's notice to lear all borough property of noxious reeds: This work is in hand.—Re lotor trucks: In my opinion something efinite- should be done in connection rath this matter, so that the Council 111 be in a position to place the trucks i commission immediately upon exiration of Messrs Clarkin and Sims' intract o n 31st March next.
