CANADIAN GOVERNMENT CONTROL. OPPOSED BY THE MILL OWNERS. (Reuter’s Telegrams.) Received January 12, 8.55 p.m. OTTAWA, Jan. 9.
Newspapers in the city of Winnipeg are threatened with early suspension, owing to a dispute between the Government and some of .the paper mills. The latter are defying the Government orders to furnish Winnipeg with paper at £l6 per ton when it can be sold in the United States at double this price. The Government has stopped ail cars destined for the United Slates. Some mill owners propose to. test the right of the Government to ‘ control the paper..
