THE TURKISH PROBLEM
CONSTANTINOPLE FOR THE SULTAN TO SATISFY MOSLEM OPINION. CONTROL OF THE DARDANELLES. (Australian-and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received January 12, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 11. The Peace. Conference is discussing the Turkish problem. It is understood that Britain no longer insists that Turkey must be cleared out of Constantinople, and the War Office and India Office support this on the ground that the British army would not be able to police the Moslem countries if agitated by a supposed attack on the Klialipate. French opinion also favours the retention of the Sultan at Constantinople, though the Allies should control the Dardanelles.
