Whitaker, of Hamilton, who has just completed a lour of the States, provide their message hoys with roller skates. The. hoys become quite, expert on these, and it is wonderful, lie says, to see them making their way rapidly through congested trallle. Many of the large department stores are equipped with moving stairways, as well as elevators, for the convenience of their patrons. Nurses are also in attendance to take charge of the children while the parents are shopping. The nursery is equipped with many forms of amusement, even to merry-go-rounds in some of the stores. At certain of the better class emporiums, an organ or oilier recital is given daily, free. At Marshetl-Fields, in Chicago, on 1 floor is devoted to tea rooms. The door is divided into four compartments, each differently furnished and seating 1000 people, or 4000 in all. Telephones, wailing rooms, meeting halls, and postal facilities are provided. In fact, every conceivable thing is done to attract custom. The Woolworlh Stores are a very wonderful institution. There is one in almost every city and town and they sell nothing but 3 and 10 cent articles, equivalent f o 3d and Gd in English money. The variety of articles seem to be unlimited, and a tremendous business lias been built up. The Woolworth building in New York is said to be the iiighest in the world, and is mostly used as offices, the ground floor being occupied by a bank.
