A GALL TO CHRISTIANS
TO REBUILD A LIFE OF PEACE. A TESTING OF ALL ACTIONS. MESSAGE FROM THE CHURCHES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received .January 13, 5.15 p.m. LONDON, January 10. The Archbishop ol ! Canterbury and York and the Revs. H. B. Meyer (Baptist), Scott Lidgett (Methodist), J. Shakespeare (secretary to the Baptist Union) and A. Glittery, as leaders of churches of all denominations, have issued a New Year's message based on the appeal by .Mr Lloyd George and the Prime Ministers of the self-governing Dominions that efforts for bettering the world should not be based merely on material things.
The message says; “The Prime Ministers’ appeal is the utterance of statesmen who have had experience of the arbitrament of war. The tests of re-building a life of peace arc to sock first the- Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and means the testing of all our actions, social, industrial And, international by the standard of His teaching. We put before professing Christians this threefold call — firmly, to re-dcdicate ourselves lo Christ’s active service; secondly, in combating the impulse of -more selfish gain we should test our actions by Christian standards; thirdly, we should unite in prayer, counsel and action, so- that our common Christian citizenship may become the' foremost power of our national ifc.”
