STRUCK BY AN ENGINE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Roland Morns, employed on the railway works at Drury, while walking along the line, was struck by an engine and badly injured. He died while being conveyed to the hospital. LEVEL CROSSING FATALITY. PALMERSTON N., Tuesday. An accident which had fatal results happened yesterday afternoon at the railway level crossing, a mile on the Wellington side of the town. As the Napier express, which was running 20 minutes late, was approaching the crossing an elderly couple named Sandford, were seen to drive up to the crossing in a gig. They apparently did not see the train, and in spite of the efforts of the driver fo warn them, were caught right on the rails, the engine crashing into the trap, killing the horse. Both occupants when picked up were seriously injured. They were taken to the hospital, where Mrs Sandford died. Sandford is in a serious condition. MOTOR CAR FATALITY. STRUCK BY A TRAIN. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Five persons were injured in an accident at Mosgicl yesterday, when a train struck a molor car driven by the owner, Mr Wilfred Tilbury. They were: Tilbury, his wife, two children (Joyce aged' live and Archibald aged four), and Thomas McCosker. a brother in law of Tilbury. Mrs Tilbury was so seriously hurt that she died three hours later. Joyce’s condition is reported to be serious, but the others are progressing favourably.
