HAMILTON TELEPHONES
A DISGRACEFUL POSITION. ■ STAFF NOT TO BLAME. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S ACTION, The position in regard to the Hamilton telephone exchange, as disclosed by a recent article in Hie Waikato Times, was mentioned at a meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last night by Hie chairman, Mr G. Parr, who considered that representations should lie made to the PostmasterGeneral to hasten the completion of Hie automatic system. A large portion of the plant was installed, and apparently only a few small items, which he understood could be obtained from Auckland, were necessary to complete Hie service. These, if procurable at all, should certainly be obtained. II was mentioned by one member Hial the 'phones which had been secured for Hamilton had been sent to Maslerton to-complete the automatic system there.
Members generally agreed that Hie undoubtedly inefficient service at Hamilton was not due lo (he exchange staff, who were working at high pressure.and a great disadvantage the whole time, hut some improvement was certainly necessary. The Times’ article clisclose*il a disgraceful state of affairs, and it was marvellous that the district had toler.eted it for so long. It was decided to write to the PoMmasler-Oeneral, urging upon him the necessity for completing the automatic system as early as possible.
