BOTTLE THROUGH WINDOW. WOMAN'S STRANGE ACT. A single woman named Ella Beatrice Keane, with a little boy aged about four years, approached the constable on duty in Victoria street, about 10.30 p.m. on Friday, and asked him if be could find her a bed for the night. He told her lie thought she would be able to secure a room in Hamilton East, and gave her an address. She replied, however, that she was too tired to walk over, and asked to be locked up. He replied he could not do this, as he had no charge against her. Replying that she would soon provide a charge, she walked away and returned a few minutes later with a bottle, which she hurled through the window of the Commercial Hotel. The woman pleaded guilty to the offence hefore Mr W. P. Mason, J.P., at the local Police Court on Saturday. During the hearing of the charge her little boy amused himself by parading the jury forms with a martial tread, climbing over the rails of the witness box and sitting in the dock. Senior Sergeant Till said the woman was in possession of a shilling and a bankbook containing £lO. Accused said she had been working at Frankton, and was going out to a sister in the country, but she missed her train. Mr Mason convicted and discharged her, on condition that she went out to her sister and paid the cost of tho window, 15s.
