[ltems of local and general interest are particularly welcome. They should he addressed to “Toucher,” and must reach this office by 2 p.m. on Thursday to ensudc publication in the succeeding Saturday’s issue.] fl Last Bowl Win. FINAL GAME AT TE AROHA. From the "Te Aroha News" I cull the following account of Monday s play in the tournament’s llnal: The llnal match of flic tourney, adjourned late on Saturday night on the eighteenth head, was completed on Monday morning. The teams were E. Gardiner, A. B. Hinton, J. Finder and J. B. Morrison (skip) Te Aroha v. Wilson, P. Williams, R. Goombes, and H. Pilkington, skip (Hamilton). On Saturday night the score was —Pilkington 17, Morrison 13. On Monday morning the weather was showery, and the green was somewhat holding. Gardiner drew his two bowls a yard in front of the Jack; the seconds improved, Hinton lying one. When the skips went down, Morrison was three up, all just in front of jack. Pilkington rubbed two of them off, and drew second. Morrison drew a measure for second. Pilkington drew the absolute with his last shot, but Morrison touched it out and lay two. Scores —Morrison 15, Pilkington 17. On the twentieth head, Wilson drew one, but Hinton beat it, lying just behind the jack. Pinder drew another. Goombes drove and skied the jacir, which fell among four bovyls, leaving Pilkington ilwo up. Morrison’s first was wide. Pilkington trailed the jack, lying one up. Morrison’s next rested just behind, still one down. Pilkington’s last bowl fell short. Scores — Pilkington 18, Morrison 15. In the llnal head, Morrison thus wanted three to tie, and four to win. Gardiner drew the shot, Hinton drew a toucher; Williams drew a second, Pinder just beat it; 2 up. Pinder drew again, a wick making Morrison four up. Pilkington’s first was a yard short. Morrison drew a fifth. Pilkington drew second shot, about a foot wide of jack. Morrison sent down a firm one, cutting out Pilkington’s bes., and thus lying five up, and winning the match with the scores—Morrison 20, Pilkington 18. Both teams got a great reception from the assemblage.

Maxwell Walker at Wellington. At the Xmas-New Year tournament conducted 'by the, Wellington Centre Maxwell Walker’s ('Ponsonby) team played its way into the rinks final. The northerners are 'to meet Hill’s (Te Hiwi) team in the final but this will not itake place until the conclusion of the Christchurch tournament, in which both teams are now playing. Describing the semi-final game .n which Ponsonby were engaged the Dominion bowling scribe said: — Ponsonby—Bray, Kummer, Wilson, Walker (s.), 23. Newtown —Davis, Darker, J. M. Brackenridge, J. Bracknridge (s.), 20. A stubborn contest this all the way, dlh the Aucklanders in the lead, •avis, who shows great form on Satrdays, was a very disappointing lead. Vith the exception of half a dozen hols he was either short or narrow r both. Barker (No. 2). was also ery erratic for half of the game, and . M. Brackenridge was hardly up to is usual good form. The veteran lewtown skip played very sound owls to the end, and saved the situaion time after time. The Ponsonby ink is a solid combination. Bray 3d brilliantly. Kummer was a useful 10. 2, and Wilson a steady reliable io. 3.’ Walker himself was as accurte and stylish as ever and gave a fine xposition of drawing and the “firm” hot. On the fourteenth bead Walker /as 20 to Brackenridge’s 10. Newown then got a 1, a 3 making them even behind. Walker scored a single' n the seventeenth head, and Newtown ot a single on the next. On the nine3enlh head Walker scored a couple, ,-hich gave him a lead of eight and left irackenridge a stiff proposition. He iade a gallant effort, schemed and] lanaed, and called un- the resources f his rink and by good generalship nd one timely trail put on three on he twentieth head and two on the nal head, leaving Walker with a marin of three, | ——i More and There. Sixteen couples took part in the ’airs Tourney at Te Aroha. On Tuesiay evening the final was played, E. lardiner and J. B. Morrison (skip) de- j eating E. Dewdiioy and J. A. Clothier, skip) after ah interesting contest. 1 On Saturday Ngaruawahia received ; visit from the Huntly Club, and a our-rink match was played After a men game on all rinks, the visitors ■arried off the honours, winning three jut of the four matches, but only by he narrow margin of eight points on he aggregate. Bromwich, Fuller, livil and Glavis 20 v. Harrison, E. Har--is, Cochrane, F. Harris 19, was the ano game in which the locals were victorious. Local howlers who took part in the Te Aroha tournament speak of the consistently good leading of Gardiner for J. B. Morrison’s winning rinks’ combination. Rarely, if ever, did he fail. In one contest it was purely the lead and the third (Finder) who stalled off C16f63.t An impromptu visit was made by Whltiora and Frankton players to Te Awamutu on Saturday last where after an enjovahle day of rink play the visitors were 19 points up'on the aggregate. Mitchell’s Whitiora rink had f win by a particularly wide margin. A Ngaruawahia team is taking pari in the Dominion tournament which is now in session at Christchurch. lh< team which comprises Morrish, Morris Hctheringion and Gould (skip) ha; entered for full rink, pairs and singles J. T. Browne, who was lead foi Mitchell at To Awamutu, played a grc.i game at the week-end. It was scldon indeed that he ever got far away fron the jack. W. E. Burrow had also i turn in the front of the team and w v. right on his game in the lead’s position T. Moncur, the ex-Hamilton playei was third in Rowe’s loam, which wa defeated hv Torrance’s, another Tau ranga combination, in [he annual howl ing combination for the Francis Cu at Te Puke at New Year. The var ions dubs in the Bay of Plenty distrh wore represented. Last year the rinks competition at 1 Aroha was won by Jury (Karangaha ke), who defeated Marsh’s team, als from the Goldfields Club, by 22 to 1. In 101 SJ. B. Morrison was successful while in 1917 a Hamilton rink, compris ing P. Williams, B. Coombes, F. 1 Wilson and N. Bell (skip) lifted th honours, defeating Jury’s team h 25—14.
