FOOCHOW INCIDENT DENIED.
THE SHANTUNG SETTLEMENT,
(By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday.
Lin Siiih Yuan, the. Chinese Consul for New Zealand, has received from his Government, a cable dated 6th inst, informing him that the widespread report that a number of Chinese students were killed or injured in a conflict with Japanese residents at Foochow, has been found, after investigation, to be without foundation, in fact the Japanese battleships at Foochow were withdrawn on January i, and the differences will be settled amicably. The cable further adds that there is' no truth in the rumour that the Shantflng question will be settled with Japan alone.
