INFLUENZA OUTBREAK
MANY CASES AT TIRAU. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. An outbreak of influenza has occurred at Tirau, where two natives ha v c died, and two other serious cases havc been reported. Nearly every house In and the surrounding districts is affected, four or five inmates being ill in several cases. The Health Inspector reports that the majority of the cases are mild ,and that the patients generally are improving. There is a serious lack of medical and nursing facilities at Tirau. The medical officer has had to visit the township from Matamata where the disease is still prevalent. MO CAUSE FOR ALARM. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. Commenting upon the foregoing telegram, Dr. Monk, the District Health Officer, stated that though the news it contained w r as correct there was not the slightest, cause for alarm. WAHAROA NATIVES AFFECTED. A correspondent, writing from Waharoa. states that influenza is prevalent among the natives there, and there have been several deaths, the bodies being interred in ground apart from the cemetery. Large numbers of natives are attending the tangis.
\ AUCKLAND HEALTH DISTRICT.
Thirty-three cases of influenza, four severe, and 20 mild, were reported in the Auckland health district during the 2i hours ended at noon yesterday. Of this number, two serious cases of the disease and two mild cases came from the city, and five mild cases from the suburbs. A severe case was reported both from To Puke and Tirau. The remaining mild cases were distributed as follows: —Hamilton, 4; Morrinsville, 2; '"'ikato County, 5; Ngaruawahia, 2; ' Ron. 1; Tauranga, G; Whakatane, 2. There was one case of pneumonia reported in Hie suburbs.
