FIRE IN NELSON
BUSINESS PREMISES DESTROYED. HEAVY LOSSES REPORTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NELSON, Saturday. A disastrous fire occurred in a wooden building in Trafalgar Square ' early this morning, and resulted in the '.destruction of M. V. Webster's, provi- • sion merchants, part of Trathen and Co - :, \ drapers and milliners, and Shield and Co., wine arid spirit merchants. The fire brigade fought with great determination, but the flames, having a good hold when discovered, spread rapidly in the wooden buildings. Webster is a heavy loser, Hone of his stock being saved. A good deal was saved from Shield's premises, and Trathen's clothing and millinery departments in brick buildings were saved, but the main building, together with the reserve stocks, was totally destroyed. Trathen's loss runs into thousands. The origin is a mystery, but the fire is believed to have started near Webster's premises. The insurances are:Trathen's: Stock £6850, building £750. Webster's: Stock £7oo»and building £6OO. Shield's: Building £200,_ stock owned by Levin and Co. !
