FURTHER NATIONALIST GAINS. A CLOSE FINISH. THE STATE OP THE PARTIES. (United Press Association.) Received January 4, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, l»ee. -i. As anticipated, the final fig-ores for the Brisbane seat in the House of Representatives ousts Mr Pinlayson, a prominent Labourite, in favour of Mr Cameron, Nationalist. Another Nationalist gain is announced at Ballarat, where Major Kcrby defeated the Labour member (Mr McOratli) by a single vote. This makes the state of the parties: Nationalist 35 Labour 26 Fanners 14 AN ELECTION APPEAL. (United IVpss Association.) Received January 5, 9.45 a.m. SYDNEY, January 5. The Labour Partv has decided to appeal to the High Court in connection with the Ballarat election.
