Mr Des Condon, who had been spending a short holiday in Sydney, returned to Hamilton last evening. The death occurred in Wellington last week of Mr Scobell, a member of the Diggers Pierrots 'Company. Dr G. E. Morrison, Political Advisor to the President of the Chinese Republic, is seriously ill, and has to undergo a third operation. Sir C. G. Wade, who has accepted a Judgeship of the Supreme Court of ISew South Wales, will sail from London by the Osterlty. Dr. Douglas is at present on a month's trip in the South Island, and on his return early in February will commence practice in Hamilton as a surgeon. Mr D. C. Bates, New Zealand Government Meteorologist, who attended the International Meteorological Congress at Paris as the Dominion's representative, has arrived in Sydney by the Port Pirie. Accompanied by Mrs Bates, he is expected to return to Wellington shortly. Lieutenant Hector Steele, M.C., E.F.A., son of Mr and Mrs S. Steele, of Bukuhia, who returned to England in November, from Archangel, was in Eussia for several months, and £■- the time of the evacuation he was second in command of the final defences. Mr Steele left England towards the end of the month on a visit to the Agentine. A pleasing function took place at the Cambridge Dairy Company's offices on Friday, when Mr Edward Allen, on behalf of the directors of the company, presented Mr James Hooker, who is visiting England shortly, with a line travelling rug. In a neat little speech he wished Mr Hooker a pleasant voyage and a safe return. Mr Hooker suitably and feelingly returned thanks. Mr Hooker will leave by the Niagara this week, and will proceed to Canada, visit New York, and from there will proceed to England, where he will attend the marriage' of his son. While in the Old World it is Mr Hooker's intention to visit the battle fields of Flanders, and to see the graves of his two boys who fell in the fight for freedom.
