The smootli running of a club and the utmost enjoyment of a bowling season to members individually and collectively pivot very materially on the efforts of the officer at the head of the bowling ship. In its president and green superintendent, Mr M. Darke, the Hamilton Club has a competent and painstaking official whose aim and object lie in the club’s welfare, and Through that the comfort and consideration of its members. The excellent conditions that obtain on and off the green are a striking testimony to the president’s capabilities and a recompense in some measure too, it is felt, to Mr Darke for. the many hours of gratuitous labour he has accorded so that the club may be the acme of perfection which he always aims at and, what is more to the point, attains. To in some measure show recognition of his work was (the concern of a Christmas Day gatherling of members on the green, when Mr VL E. Manning, on their behalf, presentfed Mr Darke with a case of five pipes and cigar-holder and extended to the Recipient the general high appreciation of members towards him. The salvo of cheering that followed was further intense endorsement of the speaker’s remarks and the deeply cordial feelings that they conveyed. Two other pleasing little functions took place on the same occasion, of a 'cheque for a substantial amount to m'ark the faithful services to the club of the green-keeper, Mr R. Darke, and further, a presentation to Mrs Bennett, whose supervision and general attention towards the afternoon tea arrangements on the numerous play-days on the club’s green have assured that everything is replete in this very important department of the bowler’s enjoyment. It was, indeed, a thoughtful action by the Hamilton members to in this manner show their appreciation towards those who have clone so much for the club in particular and in the interests of the bowling pastime, in the broader sense. Jottings. Loveridge, C. M. Brown and J. Prickett comprised the rink- representatives of the Frankton Club at the Te AToha tournament. The seventh annual champion bowling tournament under the control of the Dominion Association will comChristchurch on January Bth. The two tournament rinks from Hamilton, skipped by Bell and Pilkington, have been contesting for the honours at Te Aroha’s New Year’s bowling festival, which opened on Thursday. The club’s singles competition on the Hamilton green has now reached the \flnal stage.
