WHATAWHATA RACING CLUB. EXPLODE WINS THE CUP. Fine weather prevailed yesterday for the annual gathering of the Whatawhata Racing Club, which was well attended, a large number of Hamilton people taking advantage of an outing in the country toy assisting at the fixture., The seven races on the programme attracted very satisfactory fields in a •numerical and some close and interesting finishes were witnessed. Now that the war is over this wellknown racing festival has recommenced an era which should soon bring it up to a standard even more popular, if such is possible, than it had ever previously attained. The success of yesterday's gathering rightly leads such a deduction to be drawn. The secretary of the club, Mr W. D. Laxon, and the various officials associated with him, are deserving of a special word of praise for the arrangements, which worked so smoothly and contributed so materially to the success of the meethiir rohowing are the results: — 'Handicap Hurdles, 1J miles.—Mr Natzke's Matapara, 9.2 (Arnott) 1. Lady Roto made'the running to the straight, where Auldana ciosed up, and after a good finish won by a length. Handicap Trot, 2 miles.—Mr W. Clarkin's Master Mack, limit (owner), 1; Mr A. Terry's Valetta, 24yds (owner), 2; Mr A. Chaffey's Appeal, limit (owner), 3. Also started: Miss Roto, Ngaroma, Kotiro, Otuh'i, Te Ataihaia, Norton, Indian Chief and Native Bey. Hamlet got well away, but was soon challenged by Auldana and Colour-Sergeant, and a most exciting finish resulted in Aldana getting the verdict by a neck, Glenval being a length behind.
