GERMANS FOR FIJI
DEMONSTRATIONS BY SOLDIERS. LUGGAGE THROWN INTO HARBOUR. NOT TO BE ALLOWED TO LAND. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received December 8, 9.45 p.m.
SUVA, Dec. 8
Five Germans repatriated by Atua, were met yesterday on the wharf by returned soldiers, who made a hostile demonstration. The Germans' luggage was flung into the harbour and they then decided to stay aboard.
To-day the Governor met the Returned Soldiers' Association and promised that the Germans would be placed on Quarantine Island, pending a decision. Other Germans from Levuka are due on Wednesday, and they will be sent to the island also.
