TOWN PLANNING

NO LEGISLATION THIS SESSION. (By Telegraph.—Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The official conference called by the Government in Wellington to consider town planning and housing appointed a small committee to watch legislative matters connected with the subjects of the conference. This committee interviewed the Hon. J. B. Hine, Minister of Internal Affairs, to request that the comprehensive report on the conference to be prepared by the honorary organiser, Mr Hurst Seager, should be printed and published, also that the new Minister should take up Mr G. W. Russell's Housing and Town Planning Bill as amended by the conference. It was pointed out by the deputation, which was introduced by Mr G. J. Parr, M.P., chairman of the legislative committee of the conference, that all the interests concerned in local government were well represented at the conference, and a measure on lines favoured by delegates would have a good chance of acceptance by the House of Representatives. The Minister readily undertook to publish the conference report, as he considered i' (fontalned.a great deal of valuable 'n'brmation on housing and town planning. He could not undertake to introduce a Bill on the subject this session, but indicated that an mendment of the Municipal Corporations Act was being brought down, and that this might give an opportunity for dealing with a few of the most pressing reforms desired by the conference.
