In the police court, Alfred Harold William Williams was charged with imposing on the Soldiers' Welfare Committee by representing that he was a returned soldier and obtaining money and clothing; also with defrauding a shopkeeper from whom he obtained goods to the value of £ls on the same pretence. It was stated that three years ago accused was sentenced to three years' reformative treatment in Auckland for a similar offence. On the first charge accused was sentenced to one year's hard labour and on the second charge to six months, the sentences to be cumulative.
