CANDIDATES CHOSEN. A meeting of the Hamilton Citizens* Association was held in the Baths Room last night. Mr. Bourne, president, occupied the chair, and there were 15 members present. It was reported that Mr. Sykes had 1 een appointed organiser in connection with the forthcoming municipal elections campaign. Nine candidates accepted nomination for the Council—three representing Hamilton East, two Whitiora, two Central and two Glaudelands. It was stated that thes represented every trade .and profession necessary on a Council—an engineer, an architect, a builder, etc.
It was resolved that the names should not be published until three candidates had been chosen to represent Frankton. The Association js desirous of running a full “ticket." The chairman mentioned that the Association had been instrumental in putting 200 names' on the municipal roll, and as the roll closed at 5 p.m. to-day members should bestir them- M -selves in getting further names. The " Association had a membership of 500, and it should not be difficult for them to secure strong representation on the council.
A letter was received from Major Rastrick regretting that he could not see his way to accept nomination, as he had not the requisite time to devote to municipal affairs. It was resolved that the abattoirs and new bridge questions be added to the platform of the Association. Some discussion took place as to whether the Saturday half-holiday should be made one of the planks. While sympathetic to the proposal, members thought it\would be better to leave it to the individual candidates. Canvassing commitees were set up and matters put in train for a vigorous campaign.
