Hon. J. A. Tole, K.C., Crown Prosecutor, and Mr Mays, of Auckland, are in Hamilton to-day. Mr E. Parry, late Chief Government Electrical Engineer, is to sail from New Zealand for England to-day.

Mr Walter V. Hobbs, representing Mademoiselle Antonia Dolores, was in. town to-day, arranging for the visit oF the popular French prima donna.

Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and the Countess of Liverpool are expected to pass through Hamilton on Saturday next on their way to Rotorua.

Mr J. J. Clark, who for the past four years has been Mayor of Dunedin, has declined re-nomination. Crs. Begg, Green, Black and MacDonald have been nominated for the position.

Dr. Florence Keller, who is well known as a member of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, will be a visitor to Hamilton at the corning week-end. She has consented to speak at the Theatre Royal next Sunday afternoon. Mr W. S. Short, Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department, retires on superannuation at the end of the present year. He was to have retired two years ago, but owing to the conditions created by the war he consented to postpone his retirement. The many friends of Mr J. D. Robertson, the popular works manager at Horotiu, will be pleased to hear that he has returned home after his recent operation, and is making good progress towards recovery.— Horotiu Correspondent. ■Mr. J. Oliphant, solicitor, Te Awamutu, writes to deny the announcement made in this paper on Saturday that he intended to contest the Waikato seal the forthcoming general election. Mr. A. C. Turnbull, Inspector of the. Lands and Survey Department, has been appointed secretary to the Public Service Commission in succession to Mr. P. Verschaffelt, who is taking an important position in the Public Trust Office. Mr. Turnbull has been at the front for about three years, and has not yet returned.

Dr. P. Randall Woodhousc has been appointed medical superintendent o? the Wellington Hospital. At one time Dr. Woodhouse \yas senior house surgeon of the Wellington Hospital, and later held the position, of acting-superinten-dent. When the war broke out Dr. Woodhouse ,wks in England taking a post-graduatecourse in medicine and surgery. He.joined the medical branch of the British Army and saw considerable service at Home and at the base hospitals. At present Dr. Woodhouse is in England.
