CONCERNING HAMILTON SCHEMA
At last night’s meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council the Ju iuenza Epidemic Commission asked tor reports and information with regrad to the proposed housing. s;c.acme.—-Referred to Laval and Finance Committee.' In reply to Cr. Lafferty, who .said that lie had had many enquiries regarding the housing question, the chairman said the details regarding style of architecture, rents, location, etc., would not lie fixed definitely by the Council until the poll was taken. Cr Tidd said the committee had decided to get as close as possible to the Government scheme, but ot course they did not know whot the houses would * ° Cr. Herbert considered that they could not compete with the Government scheme, and the ratepayers should be informed of the cost per £IOO of expenditure. Cr. Lafferty thought the ratepayers were being asked to vote in the dark, and should be given some idea of cost, etc. „ . ~ 'flic Mayor pointed out that trio scheme outlined by the committee had been confirmed by the Council. Cr. Tombs said the Council was not out for profd. He thought that until the poll was taken it would not be advisable to go to the expense of plans, etc. The money would probably be got fairly cheap. In reply to Cr. Jolly, Cr. Tidd considered the scheme would be self-sup-porting. Mr C. F. Burton applied for one of the workmen’s dwellings to be erected. —Filed.
