Rev. J. Wrighv. formerly Minister in charge of the' Hamilton* Methodist circuit, but now of Auckland, is on a visit to this district. Great sympathy will be extended to him by his many friends hereon his recent bereavement, he having lost his wife.

The Piako County Council, at its meeting at Te Aloha yesterday, passid a vote of condolence with the rela. tives of soldiers who had died recently on active service. The chairman, in moving the resolution, mentioned the names of (lieutenant Ralph Somers, son of Mr Somers, of the Hot Springs Hotel, Te Aroha; Sergeant A. Taylor. and Corporal Ryan, of VYaihou; Private A. Davy, of Te Aroha; Private G. Orr. son of Mr C. A. Orr: Private A.

Stewart, of Waitoa; Rev. Mallett, of Mxminsville; and Mr R. Stevens 'a letnrned soldier), who died suddeniy at the Reynolds Settlement. >tr G. H. Oldham, of the X.Z. Dairy Association staff at the Fmnkton Junction factory, has severed his connection wild the Association to take up the position of dairy instructor with the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Company, Limited. Mr Oldham organised and established the P • v Association's herd-testing department at Frankton seven years ago, and has 'wen in charge of it ever since. On Friday afternoon last the staff assembled in the test room to bid Mr Oldham farewell, and the manager, Mr C. J. Parlane, on behalf of those present, presented him with a handsome writing-case, as a small tc ' -. ' esteem. Mr Parlane referred in laudatory terms to Mr Oldham's services, and wished him success in his new sphere of labour. The recipient suitably responded.

At a gathering of officers of the Department of Agriculture in Hamilton yesterday afternoon. Mr Ross, Fields Supervisor, on l>ehalf of those present, banded to Mr Cubitt, on the eve of his maijriage, a handsome suit chse in token of official appreciation and personal liking. In making the presentation Air Ross said that the Hamilton office had long possessed an enviable reputation for the harmony and loyalty existing in it, and Mr dib'tt had aWv helped to establish ihe tradition while his efficiency was .always above question. Mr Cubitt, in returnir&g thank", spoke of the assistance* he bad received from memliers of the staff upon bis initiation, four years and a. half ago. and especially during the period when the demands of war, in the nurchnse of remounts, etc., had •neatly inevrnsed the burden of his d"ties. After expressing the kindliest and lvfst wishes for the future of Mr and Mrs Cubitt, the usual adjournment followed.
