Mr E. H. Hi lev, General .Manager of tilui New Zealand Railways, visited Frankton to-day in connection with departmental matters. The death is announced of Charles Orozat Converse, lawyer and composer, who was the writer of the popular hymn "What a Friend we Have in .lesus."
Captain James Chivers, No. 1 Battalion, N.Z. Hide Brigade, who rea 'bed Auckland by a hospital ship yesterdav, returned to Hamilton lasi night. He is still suffering from the effects of gas. and will go into the Waikato Hospital to-day. The death is announced of Mr William Waddell, ex-Mayor of Oamaru. He was prominent in bowling circles. Captain C. C. P. Tanner, of the Royal Garrison Artillery, formerly of Wellington, New Zealand, has died abroad.
